Spring 2016 Retreat at UC Berkeley

Synberc’s Spring 2016 Retreat will take place March 23-24 at UC Berkeley. You must be registered to attend (please see information below if you're not sure who can register). REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. The agenda is now online - here's an overview of the schedule:

  • Tue March 22 (evening): DNA and industry mentoring on tap! A mixer co-sponsored by Synberc SPA and SGI-DNA at Hotel Durant (flyer below)
  • Wed March 23: First Session starts at 8:00 AM! Science talks, poster session
  • Thu March 24: Science talks, civic engagement session, Synberc Gala at the Claremont Hotel!
  • Fri March 25 (morning): Open meeting about EBRC (Engineering Biology Research Consortium)
  • Fri March 25 (9:30-12): SPA Industry Visit to Caribou Biosciences (registration required)

This Synberc retreat is open to members and invited guests only. Members include our principal investigators, their students and postdocs, member companies' employees, and Strategic Advisory Board members.

Information for companies
Employees of Synberc member companies are free to register. If your company would like to send more than three people, please contact Leonard Katz.

If your company is not yet a Synberc member and you would like to attend as guest to explore Synberc membership, please register and email a signed guest confidentiality agreement to Synberc Central. The confidentiality agreement must be signed by an authorized company employee. One agreement will cover all company employees attending the retreat.

If you have previously attended as a guest and your company would like to become a Synberc industry member, please register and email a signed membership agreement to Leonard Katz.

HOTEL & AIR TRAVEL INFO (for PIs, SAB members, and students/postdocs)

Synberc will pay room and tax at the Durant and Claremont Hotels (check-in: March 22, check-out: March 25). Students and postdocs are required to share double-occupancy rooms for budget reasons. On your Travel Request form, write in the name if you have a preferred roommate from your lab. If none, somebody will be assigned. When booking and upon check-in at Durant and Claremont Hotels, you will be asked for your credit card to cover personal incidentals.

For air tickets, if you submit your Travel Request form to Fernando del Rosario BEFORE February 15, Synberc will book and purchase roundtrip economy-class tickets. If not, you may have to pay out of pocket and be reimbursed later based on economy/coach class fares. Campus travel policy only allows nonrefundable, nontransferable economycoach class tickets.

After the retreat, reimbursement for in-transit travel expenses can be requested by filling this Travel Reimbursement online form. Email the signed form with all receipts to Synberc Central. If you have not received any payment from Synberc/UC Berkeley, fill out UCB Supplier/W-9 form Sections 1 and 4, sign and email to Synberc Central.

POSTER INFO FOR STUDENTS AND POSTDOCS 

Put me on your poster!If you are funded by Synberc and/or request reimbursement for travel expenses, you are required to present a poster. If you are invited to present a talk, this requirement is waived. You may use this 36" x 48" poster template and Synberc logo. Please mark your poster "CONFIDENTIAL" if you anticipate filing a patent or invention disclosure or awaiting publication. Confidential work will be isolated from public view. If you are not ready to submit your poster when you register, email your title, author/s, and abstract to Fernando del Rosario (no later than March 7). You will have to submit your poster PDF when you request travel reimbursement.
