Student Leadership Council The SynBERC Student Leadership Council (SLC) works to promote greater student and postdoctoral researcher involvement in the day-to-day workings of our Center. The SLC provides unique leadership opportunities to student researchers. It also organizes a number of professional development and outreach activities throughout the year.

SynBio Practices West Coast Working Group–Syn bio community members meet monthly in the Bay Area to explore how to positively and productively engage with societal ramifications of syn bio. http://openwetware.org/wiki/SBPWG
SynBio East Coast Working Group – Student-led synthetic biology seminar series held bi-weekly during the academic year at MIT.
SynBio Slam – An evening workshop in which members of the synthetic biology community share their 5-minute visions of the future of synthetic biology. The inaugural Slam was held at SB5.0 in spring 2011.
Career Panels – A series of panel discussions led by industry leaders on topics such as entrepreneuship, intellectual property issues, biotech policy, etc.
Industry Visits & Socials – Field trips to local biotech companies organized by and for students.
Resume Book – Electronic compilation of SynBERC student resumes. Targeted at SynBERC industry members.
SynBERC Student E-newsletter – An electronically distributed newsletter by and about SynBERC students.
Synthetic Biology Symposia – Day-long symposia held annually at Prairie View A&M in 2010 and 2011. Events included research talks by SynBERC grad students and theme-based panel discussions.

Leaders in Practices Workshop – A multi-day workshop bringing together young community members and invited guests to learn about, and work towards solutions to, problems at the interface of synthetic biology technology development and policy, law and ethics.
SynBio Short Courses – Professional development seminars/classes on synthetic biology-related topics such as starting companies, grant writing, safety/security, intellectual property, biotech policy/regulation, ethics etc.
Intro to SynBERC – A part-day introduction to the goals and structure of SynBERC and its connection to other investments and efforts in synthetic biology.
